Activities On Offer

Heartstart: Heartstart is an initiative started by The British Heart Foundation. Heartstart teaches people what to do in a life-threatening emergency – simple skills that save lives. All children in Woodburn Primary School are taught Heartstart at an age appropriate level.

Young Enterprise: Young Enterprise is used within schools to develop links between education and industry. Years 2-7 are visitied throughout the school year and taught different aspects of business to enable them to inspire and achieve as they grow.

Years 1, 2 and 3 Nativity: Our school nativity takes place in Holy Trinity Church.  We would love you to join us as we tell the Christmas story through drama and songs.

Years 4, 5, 6 and 7 Spring Concert: The theme of this year’s Spring Concert is a closely guarded secret.  It promises to be another fast paced, foot tapping performance by all children in Years 4, 5, 6 and 7.  You will be reminded of many central truths which we strongly value within our school. There could be no better way to spend a morning, so please come and join us at Holy Trinity Church.

School Trips: Educational visits take place throughout the year. Each class takes part in at least one visit.  School trips give children to opportunity to develop their social skills and have fun in a safe and educational environment.

Swimming: Swimming takes place for Yrs 5, 6 and 7 on Friday mornings throughout the school year. Year 6 attend swimming from September – December. Year 7 attend swimming from January – Easter (dates vary). Yr 5 attend swimming from March/April (dates vary) – June.

Music: Piano, Clarinet and Flute lessons are available within school.  Costs are payable to the external provider.

Carrickfergus Festival: Every year, pupils from each class represent the school and participate in the verse-speaking competition at the Carrickfergus Musical Festival. Pupils regularly celebrate success, achieving certificates of commendation, cups and even medals! These events are a time of anticipation and excitement within the school and are well supported by parents and friends. They also provide opportunities for the pupils to meet and mix with other pupils from within the community.

Football and Hockey: Football and hockey will become available for specific year groups in Woodburn Primary School as an extra curricular activity.

UNCRC Article  28: ‘Every child has the right to an education.’

UNCRC Article 29: ‘Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full.  It must encourage child’s respect for human rights, as well as repest for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment.’

UNCRC Article 31: ‘Every child has the right to relax, play and join in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities.’
